Not sure if you guys have sorted out going on the lead course yet but I'm thinking about it too if you need a second or third. I'm not sure how much lead climbing I'll manage myself but I want to be able to confidently belay for my friends that do like to do this.

how hard can it be?
belaying requires a much more dynamic approach.
and climbing... if you don't know what the phrash "back clip" means, you could very easily ruin yourself. (ok, i'll pull the cotton wool off.... if you back clip all the way up and then fall, there's a very high chance it'll be black mating, not the rope, breaking your fall...)

by all means give it a go, but you'd be better either...

learning from an experienced climbing partner
get lessons
if you pay for lessons you should learn more than just how to lead climb safely, but also some good tips and tactics to improve your overall climbing.

(i do not work for any climbing wall, nor am i a qualified instructor before you ask. i was lucky enough to get taught by friends, but i have also paid for private lessons in the past)

Hi Chris,

Dropped you an email with my contact details. I'd like to do the course and I'm up for some top rope practice in the meantime.

Hi Rallymania,
I was only being light hearted about giving it a go, i am aware there is more to it. I'm also aware of the term back clipping which is very dangerous and it does leave the clips substitutable to un clipping the safety rope under fall condition. I will be taking a course in the near future, i believe its money well spent.
Thanks for your concern and may even get a chance to climb sometime.
